Which Nation Controls the Gambling Industry?
Which nation holds the biggest amount of control over online gambling, the United States, the European Union, or the United Kingdom?
While it’s probably true that more online gamblers come from the United States more than any other nation, the fact remains that the United States government has continually neglected to take advantage of great opportunities at regulation. Meanwhile, the EU and UK have put a virtual stranglehold on offshore internet gambling, and give a good example of how profitable government-regulated online gambling is a great source of revenue for nationwide spending. This goes for all gaming such as casino, poker or online bingo etc.
UK is perhaps slightly ahead of EU, purely by default as the UK was the first and most liberal outspoken proponent of gambling regulations on the internet. Through taxation of the online gambling industry, in addition to nationwide uniformity in support of regulation (which is something the US and even the EU struggle with) the UK has effectively risen to the top as the main force in the online gambling industry.
In the future, the US is looking to shake things up by introducing new bills to call for the regulation and taxation of online gambling, which may threaten the popularity of UK sites by US gamers. Until then, however, expect the UK to continue to make inroads by establishing themselves as the de-facto market leader in online gambling.
